Nutrition Fix on Your Phone –Christy Baroni

In the past, one of my favorite questions to be asked was, “So, whatchya reading these days?” It was usually some best seller, a business guru’s latest revelation, a spiritual devotional, or something at least a little bit entertaining. Well, now I cringe a little when someone asks me that because between kids, jobs, and life in general my reading list has dwindled to whatever I can catch on my phone.

As someone who pursues clean eating and healthy living with a passion, I have found the internet to be not only a source of information, but a source of frustration too. It is equal parts inspiration and complete crap. In an effort to help you avoid the crap, I have narrowed down my list to my top 3 favorite nutrition sites.

Mark’s Daily Apple – Let’s start with the site that started it all for me. All roads lead to www.marksdailyapple.com when looking to get started with clean eating. This site is full of sound advice and insightful articles in to transitioning away from the standard American diet to something that promotes health and well being. My favorite article of all time can be found in his archives (search: entitled to sabotage) and is the only place I’ve ever read about the difference between a ‘treat’ and an ‘excuse’. Powerful stuff. Mark’s Daily Apple is a staple in my weekly consumption.

ThugKitchen – If you are offended by f-bombs and common sense, this may not be the site for you. The guy who writes this site lives by the credo to “eat like you give a f*ck”. I am serious. I personally have a giant cyber-crush on him for his straight up no bullshit approach to presenting healthy eating tips. His language may be straight out of a frat house, but his recipes would make Martha herself jealous. A trip to www.thugkitchen.com will give you a good laugh and some sound advice.

Detoxinista – After eating these crazy delicious cookies at a party recently, I hunted down CFHH’er Jessica Greenstein and begged for her secret recipe. She sent me to www.detoxinista.com and I found a wealth of amazing recipes and just plain old common sense advice for living a healthy lifestyle. The author’s name is Megan and her mantra is that “healthy living is easier than you think”. I agree wholeheartedly, Megan! She shares food and recipe tips in addition to some handy household ideas to keep your life as chemical free as possible. AND, she is a few months pregnant, so she is sharing a ton of great ideas for growing little humans without falling off the health wagon.

So, what are you reading these days? If you have any sites that you visit frequently, please share them with us in the comments section! And if you have any specific nutrition questions, or an idea for a topic you’d like covered send it my way.
